There was a funny meme trending on social media that I can’t stop thinking about. It’s a green-screened video that starts off showing a boy panicking underwater. Then a text bubble pops up that says: “When you’re drowning, but you remember you can drink water…” The boy stops panicking, pulls a straw out of his pocket, and drinks all the water. The video ends with an audio clip TikTokers use to jokingly seem wise. It’s the voice of Alan Watts when he said, “A person who thinks all the time has nothing to think about except thoughts.”

Alan Watts was a man of many interests. He went to school for theology, philosophy, and religion. He devoted his life to studying, observing, and applying many of the ideas and concepts that dealt the mind and soul. One of his core concepts was mindful meditation.
